The Businessman’s House
An ever-increasing pace of life, especially of business people, entrepreneurs and owners of small, middle and big companies has imposed a set of negative changes in people’s lifestyle which are caused by an increasingly larger occupation with professional duties, a longer and unpredictable work time and shorter valuable time for people to spend with their loved ones at home.
The concept of automating the household is an attempt to address the challenges of a new era, by using the technology of house automation for improving the quality of living and spending those rare and valuable free moments for relaxation in a convenient ambience and the warmth of the home. This example vividly shows how it is possible to save up to 50% when automating the whole facility.
In this facility, the Smart Home system integrated the subsystems for controlling the internal on/off and dimmable lighting, heating and cooling, curtains, blinds, sockets, swimming pool, watering system and alarm system. In addition, in order to ensure better security, magnetic contacts have been put on windows and sensors for glass breakage. On every level, there is a multi-functional touch sensitive central panel from which it is possible to control certain levels and through the application it is possible to access the whole house. The Magiesta application, which was created by a team of our programmers, adjusts to the needs and wishes of every user of the Smart home. Apart from additional personalization, users have additional options such as their own creation of presence simulation or making the heating and cooling trajectory for each space unit per hour (0-24h).
For instance, users can optimize the temperature in each room by automatically controlling the floor, wall and radiator heating and cooling. A possible scenario of the movement of temperature is the following: from 0-6h, the temperature in the morning is 18 degrees Celsius in the living room, gym, kitchen and study, while the temperature in the bedroom and children’s rooms is 21 degrees Celsius. From 6 to 9 am, the temperature rises by 2 degrees per hour, and after 9 am, when the tenants leave the house, it falls again to the morning level at which it stays until the tenants come back in the afternoon hours. In the evening hours, the temperature ranges from 22 to 27 degrees Celsius, depending on the outside temperature and season of the year.
The "Presence Simulation" scenario is most frequently used when the owner goes on holiday i.e. when the house is empty for a longer period of time. This macro enables users to alternately turn certain lighting on and off on certain days, to lower and raise the blinds or to turn the TV on and off in order to create a sense that someone is actually at home.
In the "Leaving Home" program scenario, on leaving home, the complete lighting and all the devices which have been integrated in the Smart Home system are activated at the push of a button (except for the fridge), but if the home stays empty, the main water supply is closed, which is how the security function of the system is activated. The owner of the house activates the Coming Home program scenario through the application on leaving for home from work, the airport or car, which adjusts the ambience so the outside lighting is activated in the front yard, the light in front of the garage and inside of it, in the hall, living room and bathroom, the water in the boiler heats up, the TV and audio system are activated, the blinds are raised and the temperature in the living room reaches the preferred 22 degrees Celsius.
On activating the "Watching the Home Cinema" scenario, the home cinema is activated and it adjusts to the desired channel, the main lighting is turned off, the blinds are lowered and the ambient light stays on for two more minutes while the tenants are taking their places in front of the TV/projector.
When going to sleep, the "Good Night" scenario is activated above the bed through the multi-functional touch sensitive central panelwhich is located in the bedroom. This scenario includes turning off the entire lighting in the house, the temperature in the house drops, the outside alarm sensors are activated, the blinds on the two bottom levels are lowered, the TV and audio devices that have remained turned on in the bedroom are automatically turned off at 1 am, and the boiler is automatically turned on at midnight, when the lower consumption tariff for electricity starts. In the morning, the Good Morning scenario turns on the chosen music, raises all the blinds on the bottom levels and turns on the light in the bathroom. In the evening, the family gathers for dinner at the dining table when one of the tenants activates the Dinner scenario which adjusts the lighting in the dining room and kitchen, turns off the TV and audio devices and raises the blinds in case they are lowered.
Apart from these standard scenarios, the tenants have at their disposal a wide range of specific scenarios that they can pre-program in accordance with their lifestyle, habits, wishes and needs.
For the automatic watering of greenery, two periods have been intended (morning and evening), which the owner defines in real time, of course with the possibility to turn off the automation if green surfaces are used within the defined periods.
In addition, the owner can control over the internet as well by using the program Magiesta application, so that when logging in, one can check the current status of all the devices and equipment in the house and to occasionally activate or turn off the devices.
The Smart Home system which is designed this way on the facility serves it purpose to the fullest and becomes complete by improving the quality of living through a higher level of comfort, security and safety, and by making significant energy savings through the optimization of all the parameters of this residential house. The owner makes the biggest savings on cooling (approximately 50%) and on heating facilities (around 30%), which means that a system dimensioned this way will pay off within a couple of years of using it.
